Le N°8 : Interview with Jean-Marc Rohrer

At 60, Jean-Marc Rohrer embodies the vibrant spirit of a community rich in history and meaningful encounters. Originally from the canton of Neuchâtel, where he spent the first decades of his life, Jean-Marc has always been driven by a deep passion for the restaurant industry and sports. A father of two, Vanessa and Dragan, he has successfully navigated various careers, from commercial employee to entrepreneur, and even as a sporting director in football. His journey into the bar industry began in 2008 with « Rodolphe » in Neuchâtel, before shifting towards the mountains with N°8 Bed & Bar in Verbier.

A love story with Verbier
For Jean-Marc, Verbier is more than just a ski resort; it is a place filled with childhood memories, where he first discovered the joys of winter sports with his family. From summer holidays to unforgettable ski adventures, every moment spent here has shaped his path. It was in this resort, witnessing the early days of the iconic Fer à Cheval, that he built strong friendships, particularly with Pascal Burni, one of Verbier’s pioneers.

The Neuchâtel community, an invaluable asset
The presence of the Neuchâtel community in Verbier is undeniable. Whether through second-home owners or holiday rentals, these Neuchâtel natives contribute a unique richness to the resort’s ambiance. Their commitment to the local life, their loyalty to establishments, cafés, and restaurants firmly establish them as an undeniable presence contributing to the energy of Verbier.

Friendships and shared moments

Friendships, like the one he shares with Patrick, are at the heart of Jean-Marc’s life. Between lively games of Jass, evenings spent enjoying a good glass of wine, and passionate discussions about football, these moments strengthen bonds and create a true sense of camaraderie—the glue that holds the community together.

Discovering N° 8

N° 8 Bed & Bar is more than just an address – it’s an invitation to sample a variety of experiences. Located at Place Centrale 8, its warm and welcoming atmosphere attracts both tourists and locals alike. With its café, bar, après-ski vibe, and a selection of local tapas and wines, No 8 has established itself as a true meeting point where good times and lively conversations are always on the menu.

But there’s more. Jean-Marc also runs a small hotel with 9 rooms, as well as two apartments available for rent, each accommodating up to 6 guests. It’s the perfect solution for those looking to extend their stay in Verbier while enjoying the convenience and charm of staying right in the heart of the village.

In continual transformation

The opening of the new terraces in June 2025 marked an important milestone in the evolution of N° 8. With seating expanding from 70 to 130, this new façade overlooking Place Centrale now enhances the customer experience and further reinforces the connection to Verbier’s vibrant community and life.

A call to preserve Verbier’s legacy

Jean-Marc raises an alarm over the tragic disappea-rance of several historic establishments over the past 30 years. Such institutions, which have left lasting impres-sions across generations, must be preserved. Verbier’s charm is not just found on its ski slopes but equall in its vibrant commercial heritage. Local stakeholders, the Commune, and the Tourist Office must join forces to ensure the sustainability of businesses, ensuring Verbier continues to shine—not just as a prime destination but also as a dynamic, united, and forward-thinking community.
